Got My New Computer - I’m Too Happy For Words

The Specs
After selling my computer a while back, I got parts for a new one. It was cheaper to purchase parts and build a computer than to get a ready-made system. Here are the specifications on what I got:
- AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600
- 256M Radeon X1300PRO GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card
- KWORLD PCI Interface TV Tuner Card
- 1 GB DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Memory
- LITE-ON 18X DVD±R DVD Burner
- Hanns·G Black 19″ 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor
- 250 GB SATA Hard Drive + Plus one of my old 120 GB IDE Hard Drives
- Some cheap Creative Labs Speakers (In a noise free apartment complex)
I have a few mixed feelings about it but all in all I’m totally elated. The 19″ wide screen is wonderful for desktop work and internet browser, but I’m having a bit of a problem with gaming. I didn’t know that games specifically needed to support wide screen format. So my games play a bit squashed right now, but I guess I’ll get used to it. This is the same for my full screen TV watching with my TV Tuner card, but again, I’ll get used to it. If I happen to get some cash and have nothing better to do with it, I may add a 19″ ordinary LCD monitor just for gaming and have the wide screen for movies and DVDs. But that’s in the long run. Also there is one stuck pixel on the LCD. At least I think it’s stuck. It doesn’t show up on a while background, but it does on a black. It seems to have a bluish tint to it or something. It’s a bit annoying, but hey, I’m not complaining too much. I’ve read about some software that people use to exercise the stuck pixel. I’ve tried these, but none seem to work. The alternative is “pressing gently on the pixel with the monitor off and switching it on”. Um, no…I’m not going to risk that.
Apart from that, I’m totally in love with it. I mean, I can always max out even the fastest computer with multitasking, but this PC is great. This is nowhere near Jagular’s PC, but for just under $700.00 I cannot complain.
The Set Up
The week that everything was being ordered was Lava’s spring break, so she was home with me for the week. While I was at work, I was busy getting tracking numbers and bothering her every few hours to ask her whether the UPS guy had come in yet. Most of parts came last week Thursday. I should have been able to get it set up that very night, but I’m an idiot. I got everything except the heat sink and the fan for the CPU. To show you how much of an idiot I am, I even got the thermal compound that you use to attach the CPU to the heat sink, but no heat sink. So I had to wait a few more days while the order got her.
I cut myself a few times trying to put in the motherboard, but it’s all good. Now my blood is somewhere in it, so we’ve bonded now.
