Now I’ve been reading tons of stuff about other people’s experiences with the BoA, but I personally haven’t hadn’t had any problems with them. Up until last week, they’d been my best credit card account. They are my lowest APR that I have on any card, with a relatively high limit, so everything has been great actually. They also have a pretty good Bill Pay program; and therein lies the problem.

The BoA Strikes

Right now my BoA account has a very nice equilibrium going. It’s like a well-balanced ecosystem, where any outside stimuli is gonna cause things to spiral out of control. I have all my outgoing bills set up through the eBill Bill Pay system, including my car payment and internet payment. Because I know the exact amount of every bill, I’ve set up the amount of the incoming payment to the credit card to be the exact amount I need, so the account always goes back to zero (0) by the time the account is due.

It was Friday at about 4:45 PM, I had a problem I couldn’t solve so I was a bit bored. So I decided to check whether my bill pay for my car payment was already set. But then, oh uh, I get an error on the page saying that my account has been Temporarily Suspended and that I should call BoA, at the supplied number, to get this resolved.

So there’s the external stimuli I was talking about. Needless to say, I was a bit concerned, so I called them up; at least I tried to.

Why Don’t They At Least Play Some Good Music On Hold?

So I called up the guys at BoA. Sat on the phone for about 20 minutes before I got an operator. No biggie, I was just happy that I got one. But then, things went south from there. That was the main department, so I needed to be transfered to the Online Banking Department. So, that’s another added 15 minutes, until the phone went dead.

So I repeated part one; this time for 25 minutes. But right before the transfer, I asked for the number to Online Banking, in case this happened again. I attempted a few times during the weekend, and was unsuccessful.

On Monday morning, I decided to try again. I was rather shocked when I got an operator even before the automated voice came on. So I was rather excited. Until the guy on the line broke the bad news to me; I this was the Internet Banking Department, but then I needed to be transfered to the eBill Department. This took at least 30 minutes and this was bright and early on Monday morning. I was still on the phone when I got to work.

Situation Resolved, But WTF?

Finally, I got a nice young lady on the phone who said that she could help me without a problem. So, we went through the whole “What’s your account number” thing. So, my eBill account was back up. I guess I should have left it there, but I decided to ask some questions:

Why was my account suspended?

Well sir, it’s funny. It usually gives a “reason”, but there’s none and there are no notes. Needless to say, I’m sort of going crazy here. My account was suspended, for apparently no good reason.

Now, I’m getting mad, but I’m trying not to get mad at the operator that I’m talking to right now. I can picture her situation; she’s looking at the computer screen and there’s a box that says reason, and it’s blank. Anyway, it’s back up so I guess I shouldn’t complain too much, right? But I still had one more question.

If I didn’t happen to check, would (at least) my outgoing bills be paid?

Well sir, no they would not have. Now I kind of knew this was coming, but it was still disturbing. So, basically the fine folks at BoA did the following:

  • Disabled my eBill Bill Pay account for no reason
  • They gave no alert of such activity. Not a phone call, not an email, nothing!
  • This would pay none of my bills and cause everything to be late. Including their own stupid payments. My late payments would then be sent to collections and my credit would then be screwed up.

I was happy that my account was reactivated, but It left me feeling a lil’ dirty.
