I moved into my new apartment on January 11th, and I was yet to receive that Rent.com $100 reward they offer.
Now from my understanding, how this works is that you find the apartment on Rent.com then inform your apartment complex that you’ve found it on Rent.com. When you do move into your apartment, you go to the website and fill out the form saying that you’re all moved in. After a number of weeks, Rent.com contacts your apartment complex ask how you found them. Now they’re supposed to look at the file and say “Rent.com of course”. But that doesn’t always happen. Sometimes they don’t get the file. Sometimes they’re too busy. Sometimes they just don’t care. I’m not sure what exactly happened in my case.
After waiting a while, I called up Rent.com and was asked “what’s up”. They informed me that they were waiting on a return call from my complex. Fat chance that they were ever going to get that. So when I was just about to ask “what are my options” she said “we’ll just go ahead and send out that card to you”. Wow!!!
So today I opened up the mail and was pleasantly surprised. Now if this was so easy for me, why doesn’t everyone get this? I’m not expert, but I’m assuming that the greater percentage of movers are moving to an area they don’t know or have little experience with. Unless you have friends in the area, the internet seems to be the best option to find an apartment. Now there are a lot of options, I guess, but Rent.com is nice, easy and efficient. Pick and apartment, fill out the online form and get a free rent break.
I guess it’s too much of a hassle for some. It’s free money to me. Moving is expensive in itself, why not reward yourself? Now, let me decide what I’m going to spend this on.
I guess you can consider this a paid post, lol, but not in the purest sense.

my question to you is:
there are other places as well (apartmentsearch, for one) which offer such rewards. Apartmentsearch offers $200.
Are these purely cash rewards? How would you decide which one to use for referral while moving in?
Still waiting on the confirmation for mine!
1. Card activation fee-so I have to pay just to use it.
2. Monthly Maintenence Fee-It expires in November, so this fee x 4.
3. Transaction Fee-charged for every time I use it.
4. Cash advance fee
5. Customer service fee-Have to pay just to talk to someone.
6. Online access fee-Come on! Providing online access cost THEM nothing!
7. Lost or stolen card fees
8. Administration fee to close card and transfer-COME ON!.
9. Overdraft fee-So if you charge $90 and have $20 in fees, you’re screwed.
10. Returned Item Fee-So if you overdraw your card and give them an NSf check or charge to pay for it you get an extra fee.
11. Card on file fee-COME ON!
I guess I could use $50 of the card and save the other $50 for fees, but I can’t be sure I won’t be obligated beyond the expiration date on the card. Forget it.
