Found The Problem, I Think
As you know, I’ve got rats. When I got home yesterday I noticed that Pest Control had been in the apartment. I went down to the office to get a quick update of situation. The guy found two (2) holes from which the vermin was gaining entry into my apartment. There was one by the door and one in the dishwasher. They also told me that maintenance had patched those two places. Now, the dishwasher I don’t understand. From the patchwork I saw, they patched a small one where there pipe from under the sink goes to the dishwasher and they sealed up the space between the dishwasher and the counter. I understand that maybe the lil’ bastard was getting around through these holes, but outside? Also, I have seen neither a hole or patches near my front door. I guess I’ll have to take their word for it. So since the entry points have been sealed, I can deduce that they’ve either sealed the bugger in or out. I hope it’s out.
Pest Control
Now the interesting thing is what Pest Control did. Now I don’t know how these things work. But the impression I got is that Pest Control was going to do something that I couldn’t do myself. But there I go assuming things again. The guy set two traps, one under the sink and one next to the counter. That’s it. They had some brown gunk on them, but that’s it. This is what I waited damn near a week for; for some dude to come in and set traps. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that they found how it was getting in and out, but did I really need to wait a week for this? Couldn’t maintenance have done the same thing?
What I Expected
Now I’m not really sure what I expected them to do, but I figure if you can start a whole business around something like Pest Control then you must cater to more than the occasional housewife who is afraid of getting her fingernails caught while setting a trap. I don’t know, maybe some professional strength rat poison that once the buggers take a bite I sends some subliminal messages to their brain that tell them go round up all their nearby friends and go jump in a sewer and hold their breath till they die. But a trap? They should have told me that that is what was going to happen. I would have done that myself a long time ago.
They Sealed Him In
The trap did go off, so I know that the lil’ bastard is somewhere in the apartment. The brilliant people of Pest Control will never cease to amaze me, though. The trap that went off was set on the floor close to a cupboard. The problem is that it was underneath the underside of said cupboard. When the bugger triggered the trap, the latch or lever (or whatever it’s called) didn’t have enough clearance shut down on him because it got stuck underneath the cupboard. Brilliant. Stay tuned for another installment of this saga, that’s if I don’t burn the bloody place down first.
