The iPhone Can Kiss My iButt

For those of you who love the iPhone, please ignore this lil’ rant. I’m one who has always been against overpriced electronics (overpriced anything for that matter). But regardless of what I think, and regardless of how cool the iPhone is (I must admit, it is cool. So’s the iPod, but I didn’t feel the urge to run out and buy one either), there are some facts that you can’t ignore:

  • There is no SD card or other form of expandable memory for the device. It’s 4 GB or 8 GB, that’s it. You better make your choice right, because there is no going back.
  • For all its cool internet support there’s no GPS. Come on now, really.
  • There’s no instant messenger. I don’t get it. But I suppose you can always go on the internet and use Meebo.com or something.
  • No 3G support. It only relies on EDGE and WiFi. Edge is terribly slow and WiFi isn’t everywhere.
  • Only has a 2 MP Camera, no flash, no zoom. I’ve seen crappier phones with a lil’ bit of flash.
  • There’s no video recording. Again, I don’t get it. Is it that hard? I mean with all what it already does.

GrandCentral Bought By Google

Guess what new toy Google’s got under their belt. Well if you can read the huge title above, you know what I’m talking about. Google has purchased GrandCentral.com

What Is GrandCentral?

If you aren’t familiar with this wonderful service, GrandCentral proclaims the whole “One number to rule them all” premise. It really is a nice service. You have one, that’s it. It’s meant primarily for those of use with multiple phones (Home, cell, work, friend’s house, etc). The idea is that someone calls your GrandCentral number and all your phones ring at the same time. It’s not as bad as it sounds people, it’s not like all the phones are in the same room, remember? If you’re home you don’t have to kill your cell phone minutes, if you ran to the store, but you’re still waiting for an important call, you wont’ miss it. If any of your numbers change, you go to the accounts section and change the number there.

Washington Bans Text Messaging While Driving

I meant to mention this some time back, but I lost track of it. Washington is now the first state to ban text messaging while driving. While I understand the premise of this, I have to wonder, why do we need another unenforceable law? Really a cop pulls me over for texting? How does he prove this? Talking on the cell phone is hard enough to enforce, but at least a cop can see the phone. How is a cop, minding his own business, going to see someone texting under his steering wheel?

And when you do get pulled over, you say you were turning the phone off, or your were looking for a number. Oh well, I guess it’s time to think up some excuses.

Make The Most Out Of Coupons

Why I Don’t Use Coupons

Usually, I’d be against the whole coupon thing. I can hear you now, “But Baz, coupons save money. Aren’t you all about saving money?” I can’t use grocery store coupons. The reason is because the coupons are always for the high priced version of what I’m looking for. There are tons of Kellogg’s coupons but none for the Great Value brand that I buy at Walmart. Even with the coupons, the cheaper brands usually work out cheaper.

The Exception

The exception is for electronics. For electronics, people usually buy the name brand versions anyway. This is where coupon codes come in handy. The last ones I remember using where Buy.com coupon codes. I got myself a blue tooth headset for next to nothing.

Wordpress Plugin: “Related Posts” vs “Similar Posts”

You may have noticed some redundancy at the bottom of my posts. I give a list of Related Posts as well as a list of Similar Posts. I was up at 1:00 AM on a Friday night (don’t ask) and I decided to clean up some of the plugins that I wasn’t using. I looked at my Related Posts plugin and I wanted to check whether a new version was out. Low and behold, the link didn’t work.

After doing some searching I came across another plugin called Similar Posts. This link did work, however. I started reading up on it and the most that I could decipher is that it was based on the Related Posts plugin but they both, effectively, do the same thing.

So why do I have both on? I’m trying to figure out which one works best and for this I’m going to need your help. So far I’ve noticed that on some posts where there were no Related Posts there were some Similar Posts. Keep me posted.
