Will Gas Prices Never Fall?

Easter was great. I went out of town, went to see Lava, and joined in in a great party. I used my latest driving technique to get the most out of the gas in my tank, but I did one thing wrong. I left a small town and went back to the city without filling up before I left. It’s not that I was worried about running out of gas, because I tend to squeeze a lot out of a gallon of gas by altering my driving methods. The problem was that, when I got home, the cheapest gas I could find anywhere was 10 cents more expensive that it was where I had left.

I didn’t take my own advice of filling the tank more often and now I’m paying for it. At $2.69, I’m ready to break out my bicycle and pedal my butt to work.

Rent.com $100 Reward. Why Doesn’t Everyone Get This?

Rent.com $100 RewardI moved into my new apartment on January 11th, and I was yet to receive that Rent.com $100 reward they offer.

Now from my understanding, how this works is that you find the apartment on Rent.com then inform your apartment complex that you’ve found it on Rent.com. When you do move into your apartment, you go to the website and fill out the form saying that you’re all moved in. After a number of weeks, Rent.com contacts your apartment complex ask how you found them. Now they’re supposed to look at the file and say “Rent.com of course”. But that doesn’t always happen. Sometimes they don’t get the file. Sometimes they’re too busy. Sometimes they just don’t care. I’m not sure what exactly happened in my case.

After waiting a while, I called up Rent.com and was asked “what’s up”. They informed me that they were waiting on a return call from my complex. Fat chance that they were ever going to get that. So when I was just about to ask “what are my options” she said “we’ll just go ahead and send out that card to you”. Wow!!!

Save Money On Gas By Filling Up More Often, Really

I just spent bought about 3 and 1/2 gallons of gas today. Now why the hell would I do that you ask. That’s just under a 1/4 tank of gas for me, so what’s my point? It’s almost Easter and a lot of people are going to be traveling on Friday since it’s a long weekend, including me. Given the current trend in gas prices, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the price is going to spike on Wednesday or Thursday. The demand is about to be high for gas, so that stations, like they always do, are going to raise prices so that they can cash in for the holiday. So, it’s in your best interest to fill up a couple days before a big holiday.

This strategy works brilliantly for holidays and also in general. If you notice that gas is steadily increasing, catch it before it continues to rise. It is highly unlikely that prices are going to drop, so holding out and running on that last couple 2 gallons on gas waiting for the price to drop, it’s going to help you in the least bit.

Forget Flying, Save Money on Trips By Swimming

So you live in Wichita Falls, TX and you decide Easter is coming up so you’re going to take some time off and go on vacation. Paris, France should be nice this time of your right? So you head over to Orbitz.com and look up the cost of a flight only to be disappointed at the outrageous cost of tickets right now. What’s the alternative? You could always swim.

Hey, it’s not my idea. It comes straight from our friends at Google Maps. So I was trying to find out how long it takes to get from Wichita Falls, to Paris, TX. The guys at Google thought it would be funny to map out my trip to Paris, TX instead.

swim_across_atlantic.gifNow here’s the real hilarious part, check out step 30: “Swim across the Atlantic”. Yes people, we’re swimming. This from the same people who brought you error messages such as “Oops, something went wrong. Try again in a few minutes” or “Keep your fingers crossed and try again”. So I guess it’s really not that unexpected. Very funny though. Click the images for a direct link to the map.
