This weekend I’m supposed to be packing up my so that I can sell it. I’m having mixed emotions about the whole thing though. The biggest problem I have is that I’m going to be without a computer for about a week or however long it takes NewEgg.com to ship my new parts. Right now, this is my current configuration:

  • AMD Althon XP 2600
  • 1 GB DDR RAM
  • Brand New 20X DVD Burner
  • 17″ Dell CRT Monitor
  • Altec Lansing 251 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers
  • ATI All In Wonder - 970 PRO
  • Logitech Mouse
  • Some No Brand Keyboard
  • 120 GB Western Digital Hard Drive

So as you can see, I’m trying to make a rather big step up. This step also includes a 19″ LCD Monitor. Now I’m all excited about getting a new computer, but the problem is that I don’t know for sure whether I have a sale. The customer sounds 85% sure that he wants it.

Problem number two, is that I currently live 150 miles from this customer. So tomorrow I have to load up the computer in the car and haul it 150 miles, almost 3 hours for a possible sale. Either way it goes, I’ll be pissed:

If It Sells

Since I don’t have a positive sale I can’t go ahead and order the new parts in advance, because there is a small chance that it won’t sell, so I have to wait before I order the parts for the new computer. Hence, there’s going to be at least a week where I’ll be waiting for parts to arrive. What am I going to do for an entire week without a computer? I might go crazy.

Also, I can’t help think about how much I paid for the computer when I got it not to mention all the upgrades I put into it. I just have a hard time selling it for 1/3 or what I paid for it. That money isn’t even half of what I need for a new one.

If It Doesn’t Sell

Then I would have hauled my baby 300 miles on a round trip for nothing. I would also be stuck with a rapidly depreciating computer. This might be my very last chance at selling this thing to get any kind of money for it. It’s to the point where it cannot be upgraded any more. I would have to swap out ALL the parts; the only thing that I would retain is the computer case and keyboard.

So needless to say, I’m having a hard time with this decision. I guess it’s not really my decision to make anymore. The deal has already been made. If he sees it and likes it then I guess I gotta take his money and give up my baby.
